Cops and Quarters

Cops and Quarters

This is just a short story. It doesn't have so much to do with burnouts but its still pretty interesting. I was following a couple of my friends on a highway in my '79 Stang to this bridge that is just outside of town. You see, this particular bridge happens to be nearly a quarter-mile, any hot rodders wet dream. Their intention was to time the short trip with a stop watch. We were almost to the bridge when I noticed something strange about the car in my rearview mirror. So right before we got there I turned left on a road that leads to a new "addition" of houses, which removes perfectly good land and replaces it with cookie cutter houses. So the car behind me turns left too. It was a silver Crown-Vic with two guys in it. For a little bit it hung back then the next thing I knew the car was right on my tail. Needless to say this was clearly an unmarked car. I drove 30 mph and signaled all through the small residential area. The cop followed me all around until I turned off onto a gravel road. Then the lawman turned right on the highway and headed back towards town. Unknown by him was that my friends were the big game, timing themselves as they sped over the bridge. Now, I don't know about you, but I think that my friend owes me a big "thank you" for saving him from the long gay arm of Johnny Law.
